Many people today are interested in furniture restoration projects. They often look to antique furniture for these projects because furniture that has been sitting around for years is typically made of good quality wood that will be able to withstand the abuse of a furniture restoration project. Howard Products offers many products that can help you restore your furniture, including Restor-A-Finish and Restor-A-shine. The below article will provide tips to furniture restoration and provide products that can make your restored item perfect.

Inspect the furniture for Damage

The first step in any furniture restoration project is to inspect the furniture for damage. This includes checking for cracks, scratches, and other blemishes. If you find any damage, you will need to fix it before moving on to the next step.

Remove Loose Pieces

Some furniture restoration projects involve removing the furniture from its current location and bringing it to a different place for repair work. In this case, you should take apart any furniture that is not attached with screws or nails before moving it. This will prevent damage while transporting your furniture restoration project!

If you are moving your furniture to a different location for restoration work, make sure all of the parts are securely fastened so they don't come loose during transport.

Remove Any Hardware From the Furniture

This includes pulls, knobs, and hinges. If they are attached with screws or nails, remove them and set them aside. If they are not attached with screws or nails, you can leave them on the furniture.

Sand furniture

Once you have removed all of the loose pieces and hardware, sand your furniture down until it is nice and smooth. Be careful not to gouge or scratch the furniture while doing this! Sand slowly in one direction with a fine grain sandpaper. Make sure every single corner has been smoothed over because otherwise they will become sharp during restoration work.

Apply Howard Restor-A-Finish

After sanding furniture, apply Howard Products' Restor-A-Finish to the furniture using a clean cloth or towel and allow it to soak in for about 60 seconds before wiping off any excess product with a dry cloth. This will provide your furniture with excellent protection against wear and tear!

Restor-A-Finish is a unique finish-penetrating formula that restores the original colour and lustre to your finish while blending out the blemishes and minor scratches. Restor-A-Finish cleans the surface and restores the finish in one step - without removing any of the existing finish.

With a simple wipe-on, wipe-off process, most finished wood surfaces that seem to need a refinishing job can be completely restored in a few minutes. White heat rings and water marks, sun fade, oxidation, smoke damage, and most other blemishes can be quickly eliminated. Before you go to the extreme of stripping it, try restoring it!

Let Furniture Dry

This step is a very important one! You can not paint furniture that still has Restor-A-Finish on it, so make sure you let the furniture air dry for at least 24 hours before moving on to the next step of your furniture restoration project. This will prevent streaking from occurring when applying any other Howard Products products to your furniture in future steps.

Apply Howard Restor-A-Shine

After furniture has dried, you can apply Howard Products' Restor-A-shine to your furniture in the same way as step five. This will give your furniture a beautiful shine and protect it from future wear and tear!

Restor-A-Shine Polishing Compound is specially formulated for restoring the shine to wood finishes, including floors. Restor-A-Shine contains extremely fine micro polishing powders, blended together with select waxes and oils, producing a very unique wood finish polishing compound.

After following the above steps, your antique furniture restoration project will be complete! Make sure to allow enough time for each step to dry before moving on to the next one so that you don't damage your furniture. And remember, Howard Products offers many products that can make restoring furniture an easy task - including products to ensure you maintain the upkeep of your restored furniture.
